A: The most important element that most colleges say they are looking at is the student’s course of studies throughout his/her high school years. Has the student taken the most rigorous courses that his/her high school has offered? If the student’s school offers a wide array of AP or IB courses, has the student taken advantage of these upper level courses? Be certain that your student is taking the best academic course load available. If you are not sure, take the time to meet with your son or daughter’s counselor.
