As the Class of 2024 embarks on their next big adventure, it's time for rising seniors to start their college applications! The 2025 application season opens on August 1. Here's what you need to know from Williams Educational Consultants:
What is the Common App?
The Common App is an online platform that allows students to apply to multiple colleges and universities with one application. It includes a common application and college-specific supplements, streamlining the process and saving time. Each year on August 1, the Common App updates its application and rolls over accounts for the new cycle. Students can create an account and start preparing whether they plan to apply soon or in the future. To prepare for the new cycle, students must sign in and refresh their Common App accounts.
What Information is Rolled Over?
While the Common App may update questions annually, the following information typically stays after rollover:
Common App tab responses
Colleges in your My Colleges list (optional)
PDF copies of past applications (if applicable)
Yes, many colleges update their questions each year. To avoid losing information, students should save responses to college-specific questions or writing supplements outside the Common App, such as on Google Drive, before July 26. Students should sign in before July 26 and save their work by either printing the application or saving it in Google Drive.
When Will the Common App Refresh Its System?
Mark your calendars:
The first-year application closes at 5 pm ET on July 28, 2024.
The transfer application closes at 5 pm ET on July 29, 2024.
How Do I Roll Over My Account?
To roll over your account, sign in anytime after August 1 with the same username and password. You'll be asked a few questions before your information is moved over. You can also choose which colleges to keep on your list from the previous year.
