College Highlight of the Week – Georgia Southern University

Georgia Southern University is a Public, Coeducational College that is a Carnegie Doctoral/Research University and a member of the University System of Georgia. It is located on over 900 acres in Statesboro, one hour from Savannah and three and a half hours from Atlanta. The University is nationally recognized in publications including the U.S. News and World Report in the articles “America’s Best Colleges” and “Best Graduate Schools, as well as in Forbes “America’s Best Colleges.” There are over 120 majors offered to students and a student to faculty ratio of 1:22. 23 percent of classes have fewer than 20 students.

Along with over 250 student organizations and clubs for students to join, there are also many other programs to get involved in outside of the classroom such as aquatics, club sports, fitness and intramural sports. There is a group called Southern Adventures that offers students adventure trips, skills clinics, climbing, cycling, a challenge course and much more. The campus has its own Wildlife Center and also a Garden of the Coastal Plain which has 11 acres of gardens, trails, paths, courtyards and over 20 of the state’s protected species. For students interested in the arts, GSU has a Performing Arts Center that is new and offers an 825 seat theatre. It provides world class performing arts, music, and dance as well as educational programs.

If you would like to visit Georgia Southern, campus visits are offered Monday through Friday during the school year at 10:30a.m. or at 2:30p.m. You will first meet with an Admissions Representative for an informative presentation, followed by a walking campus tour. Residence Hall tours are offered on the same days from 12:30p.m. to 2:00p.m.
