Choose Cobb: A New School Option for Georgia Families

Williams Educational understands that school decisions begin with understanding your child. What sparks their curiosity? Where do they feel supported? What kind of environment helps them build confidence?
For Georgia families exploring schools beyond their home district, Cobb County School District’s Choose Cobb initiative offers another option to consider.
What Is Choose Cobb?
Choose Cobb allows Georgia students living outside the Cobb County School District to apply to participating schools with available space. Applicants must be in good standing academically and in attendance and behavior. Cobb students receive priority; the initiative uses remaining seats.
The district currently lists 12 participating schools:
Elementary Schools | Middle Schools | High Schools |
Clarkdale | Cooper | Allatoona |
Kennesaw | Durham | Harrison |
Pickett’s Mill | Lost Mountain | Kell |
Vaughan | Palmer | South Cobb |
Availability varies by school and grade.
Dates, Tuition, and Transportation
For spring 2027, the district lists an application window from early November through November 30, 2026, with accepted students starting January 5, 2027. Spring semester tuition is $600, with no application fee; future tuition may change. Families provide transportation. The application window for 2027–28 is January 21–February 12, 2027.
Enrollment does not guarantee access to particular programs or athletic eligibility. Families considering sports should speak directly with the school’s athletic department.
Look Beyond the School’s Name
An additional school option is an invitation to ask better questions. Before applying, consider:
Learning needs: What instruction, challenge, and support help your child succeed?
Connection: Where could your child build friendships and become involved?
Daily logistics: Can your family manage the commute, including activities and early dismissals?
Timing: How might a midyear move affect relationships, routines, and academic progress?
Student perspective: What excites your child about changing schools, and what concerns them?
For high school students, ask how current courses and credits would align with the receiving school’s schedule. A school visit can also help turn an appealing idea into a clearer picture of everyday life.
At Williams Educational Consultants, we help families connect school options with a student’s strengths, needs, and goals. The process begins with listening—and moves forward with thoughtful questions.
